External IR Led's

Postby clmuller » Thu 27. Nov 2008, 07:47

Hello,
I have the IRT-TRANS-2 (miniDin) and want to transform it as IRT-TRANS-2K (minijack)
How can I do this job ?
Is IRtrans compatible with Xantech ?
Thanks

Hi,
we do not have instructions for converting IR Transmitters because any errors might damage the IRTrans device.

If the transmitter is unused you could send it to us so that we can exchange it.

We have not tested IRTrans with Xantech, however some customers claim that it is working.
However, we cannot guarantee that as we cannot test it here.

Just want to know if it's simple parallel soldering or if it's serial or with resitors
Thanks

The 2 way transmitters are simply soldered in parallel without a resistor - the resistor is inside the IRTrans device.

I have just received an IRtrans ethernet module for use with the iRedtouch software. So far, I am very impressed. Plug and play, the product is well made and functions well.

Like many posters on this forum, I wish to use the module with external LEDs - in my case via an external LED driver as I have 8 LEDs to drive. I understand that you cant recommend third party products that you have not tested, but could you be more specific about the driving capability of the module so that users can make up their own mind about connectivity (and at their own risk). In particular, for the IR output:

1. What is the open circuit output voltage of the module's IR output
2. What is the current sourcing capability of the module's IR output
3. What is the value of the series resistor

In addition, I have seen reference to an internal jumper for a high output LEDs and also to an optional dual output that uses a stereo 3.5mm jack. I can't seem to find any documentation on this - can you point me in the right direction please.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
regarding your questions:

1. The output voltage is 3.3V
2. The current mainly depends on the carrier frequency, duty cycle and code length. It is limited by the internal resistor anyway.
3. The value of the resistor is 47R.

The jumper is only needed if you are using our high power transmitters. I would not recommend to use it in other setups as that might damage either the LEDs or the IRTrans.
The dual output option only applies if this option is ordered.
