IRTrans with Xantech - Success

Postby davidrule » Wed 2. Sep 2009, 18:38

I have an IRTrans Ethernet with the optional 2nd IR output. Each of the outputs are connected to my Xantech ZC21 connection block via an opto-coupler. It works perfectly. The couplers I have are IRLincs from Smarthome (http://www.smarthome.com/8175/IR-Linc-for-Hardwired-IR-Distribution-Systems/p.aspx). These are discontinued now but pop up on eBay from time to time. The GC-CGX from Global Cache (http://www.smarthome.com/8124/IR-Converter-GC100-To-Xantech/p.aspx) should work just fine too, although I haven't tried one personally.

Would this approach work using the IRtrans USB version from the mini-din 8 plug out to the Xantech connecting block?
If so any help with a wiring diagram would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Carl

Hi,
a solution with an opto coupler will work with any IRTrans device. The OC needs to be connected to the pins for an external LED.
The pin out for the MiniDIN8 socket can be found in the IRTrans manual.

Would you know which pins numbers are used from the IRTRrans USB mini8 connector and where they connect to the Xantech block? Any diagram, especially showing the placement of the OC's, would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
please have a look at the IRTrans manual / Hardware manual. It shows the Pins for the External LEDs (Anode (+) / Kathode (-)).

Thanks. I know that they are the IR pins but there is another poster here that claims success using pins
7 to grd and 8 to IR in on a 798-44 without any other electronics. I've tried it and can't make it work.

So if you're saying to use pins 6 and 7 to which inputs would they connect to?

Thanks,

Carl

As we never tried that out I cannot tell you how it might work that way. Furthermore I would be careful not to damage anything.

All I can tell you is that you can connect an LED to pin 6 & 7.

So what I'm hearing is if I connect an emitter to pins 6 & 7 it should work but no one knows if and how it would work to connect the same pins to IR in and Grd on the 798-44 terminals? Hard to imagine what could be different.

Thanks,

Hi,
a lot of things might be different here!

(Voltages, currents, frequencies, active Low, active high signal ...)

The IR Output is used to connect a transmitter - the Xantech input is used to connect a receiver.
These two components work completely different - connecting a transmitter and receiver back to back will not work either.
