Which cable should I use?

Postby IR_man » Tue 6. Jul 2010, 09:39

Hello everyone,

I've just bought 3 modules IRTrans RS232 V3.8 but I've forgot to order the serial cable for connecting with my PC. I thought that the RS232 - DIN8 is for that purpose but I was wrong. Moreover, I can not find the suitable cable for the 6 pin western connector? could anybody help me? Thanks alots!

Now I think that I should buy the IRT-RS232-RJ which has a RJ12 and a DB9 connectors. This cable is supper simple but why its price is more than 40 Euros? Is there something special?

No, you need the "SER-Kab-2m". It costs 6 EUR.

The other cables are active RS232 cables (with electronics inside the DB9 connector) to add aditional RS232 outputs.

Are you sure IRTrans? I did a research "SER-KAB-2M " and found this : http://www.domadoo.fr/produit,1394,15,IRTrans-C%C3%A2ble-s%C3%A9rie-RS232-2m.htm but this not what I need, it is just a normal serial cable and can not be used to interface with the module. (I'm in France and I could not find any photo of SER-KAB-2M on your website)

We are making those devices and cables therefore I am absolutely sure that this is the correct one.

No idea what Domadoo sells here - the picture is surely wrong. Our SER-KAB-2m is a cable with DB9 and RJ12 connector.

You might ask them if that is the product we sell.

Thanks IRTrans,

I just want to confirm for sure. I think that this cable is very important but you do not remark it for customers who buy RS232 modules. You have colored the IRT-RS232-DIN8 in red so I thought that is the neccessary cable. I think that it should be with the module when we buy it.

The active RS232 cable is marked in red because it is a new accessory.

Some people do not use our cables but use CAT Cables instead, therefore the cables are an accessory.
