Connecting a device trough external RS232 cable

Postby hprpic » Thu 9. May 2013, 12:53

Dear Sirs,
I'm trying to connect a Denon POA-3012CI amplifier through serial RS232 port but nothing is happening when we send a command. I'll attach some images to see how we connected all wires, how we setup the IRTrans and how are we sending the data to Denon.

Hi,
a few notes regarding this problem:

- Did you check the cable configuration? The Active RS232 cable has got the same pin out as a PC.
- You can check if the RS32 port is working with your settings when you connect it to a PC using a cross cable (important)
- We already had customers with Denon devices where a bridge between the shield of the DB9 connector and GND (pin 5) was needed. No idea why....

Everything worked well before I updated the firmware, after that it doesn't work, so the cable should be good. I tried to install the old version of Trans Server but the Red LED doesn't light. Then I installed the last Server software from your web site and the red light is turning on now, but Denon doesn't accept commands.

I will continue to publish my progress but I would also appreciate administrators to contribute.

We tried to connect Denon amplifier directly to a computer and it worked well. Then we tried to connect the computer to a Gefen DVI video Matrix 8x8 and everything went well, but when we tried to connect it via IRTrans and external RS 232 nothing happened. My opinion is hat there is something with the new firmware. Is there any chance to get the old version of firmware to try flash IRTrans with it?

Hmm, very strange. Of course we test the FW versions with regard to the RS232 functionality.

Which FW versions did you use before?

Furthermore it is very important to use a SW version that supports your Firmware. Using an old SW together with a new FW will NOT work. The other way round (old FW, new SW) it will work, though.

Please write which FW Versions and irserver versions and GUI Client versions you are using.

The screenshots you have posted above look like an old GUI Client version at least.

The old firmware was 1.11.06 and 6.08.17 and the new one is eth_1.12.06.hexnew and lan23_6.09.17.rom. The screenshots was with an old GUI client as we tried to use the old software hoping that it will work with it but we actually use the last version of server from your web site.

irserver Version: 6.10.09
GUI Client Version: 7.3.3
USB Driver Version: 2.06.00
VFD Driver Version: 2.6.0

Please select "IR Output" in the RS232 settings box and check if the RS232 port is enabled.

We will need to check that.

I would suggest you test the IRTrans RS232 cable with a PC and a cross over cable to make sure that the RS232 commands are sent.

Why did you update the FW in the first place?

I tried to connect it to a PC with a null modem cable but the PC didn't get any data from it.

We updated it because it was loosing the IP address. The upgrade didn't help it either so we fixed the IP address.
