WakeOnLan - no onboard database - remote/command

Postby nodepeeker » Fri 18. Sep 2009, 12:00

Hi,

I have the ethernet version and I am pretty sure this does not have the onboard database.

I have entered the MAC add of the PC that I hope it can wakeup, I know the PC can wakeuponan as it has been woken up for years via other wakeuponlan machines.

My question is, does one have to send an IR signal the the ethernet box picks up, for it to send the wakeup packet out?

If 'yes' I presome that 'remote' and 'command' boxes under the mac add box on the module IRTrans IR Configuration Settings page, but what can I enter here, I want to put in sky remote and power control codes, but what??

S11100000000000000000001100 under the command, but what under remote?

I was hoping that it would send out a packet in the irtrans starting up as I turn it on via my x10 controller

Hi,
you need to learn the IR Code first.

Then you can enter the name of the learned IR Code and remote control here.

When this IR Code is received the WakeOn LAN Package is sent.

Now I am really confused.

have a Linux box running your IRserver software lan mode

have a XP box running the irsoftware.

have an ethernet irtrans hardware box.

on my Linux and XP boxes I already have leanred the remote and command for my remotes and they are stored in the linux and XP remotes folder, they all work fine.

are you saying I just enter the name 'sky-digital' and 'Power' under the mac address?? cos when I do I get:
IRTrans IR Configuration Settings
Error: Poweron Command not found in IRDB.

Which I would expect as this device has no database. Am I wrong has it a database? it has no configuration for database?

This is my IRtrans ethernet box:
MAC Address 00-50-C2-52-78-EA
LAN Version L1.06.20
IR Version E5.09.01
Uptime 000D 00:06:57

If you do not have the IRDB you cannot enter that values on the Web Interface.
You will need to use the IRTrans GUI Client to do that.

The gui doesn't help.

Can you just confrim something for me.

In the Command & remote box, should they contain raw codes or names?

This is so so confusing.

What is the point of the wakeonlan box if there hardware has no irdb?

As I already wrote in my above post you need to enter the REMOTE NAME and COMMAND NAME in the Device Mode dialog of the IRTrans GUI Client (irremote.exe).

As all devices use the same Web interface the input field is in the Web Interface for all devices.

Looks correct so far.

To use the WakeOnLAN feature you need to make sure that the IR Code is recognized correctly every time.
Please check the "Detected IR Commands" Window when you press the remote control button - what is shown there ?

Furthermore you can check if the code is reccognized: The Status LED of the IRTrans should blink red very fast for around 1-2s.

Yes it does blink red very fast. Yes its detecting the command when pressed on the remote. I created anothe duplcate of the sky one, called wakelan. You will see it show upin the detected commands box.

What port you pumping the mac address out on? 7?

As you can see I have the wake on LAN monitor running, and to check I fired of some wakeonlan packets from a PC which it picks up. Still not detecting any UDP wakeuponlan
packets on port 7 from the IRTRANS box (10.0.1.9)

Here is latest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SReJVztK09oscreen recording.

No wakeonlan packet being sent.

This is the test one I send from 10.0.1.3

The IRTrans is sending an Ethernet WOL package. That means it uses the lowest level of Ethernet addressing (only the MAC is used).
It is not using UDP or any other high-level IP Protocol. That also means that no IP address is needed.
As packages in a switched network are only sent to the addressed MAC you will not see it on devices with different addresses.

There is no standard saying that WOL has to use a certain UDP port or UDP at all.
In fact, most devices are using UDP because they have no network API available that allows to send low level Ethernet packages.

We have tested this with a lot of different PCs and appliances.
