Q re external Power Supply for POE module

Postby heinz » Wed 2. Dec 2009, 00:41

As I did a factory reset today, and the module did not pick up an IP from our DHCP server (Sonicwall Firewall) I ended up in a bit of a quandary. I assumed the power supply was same for ethernet and ethernet POE modules but I found out very quickly that this is not so,

Since I also have cameras on POE I couldn't move the switch to the required IP range to talk to the IRTrans module to set the IP on my LAN. Thankfully I had a spare switch with POE so it all turned out ok.

However, next time I may not be so lucky so I want to be prepared to power the module directly and simply connect the module to my Macs second ethernet port to configure from scratch.

Any power supply delivering 4.5-6V DC with center positive can be used? Any minimum capacity?

TIA

Any power supply with 4,5-6V DC and at least 500mA is OK. Please note that it needs to have a plug with 5,5/2,5mm.
