Ethernet Active RS232

Dear Sir,
I'm looking at the IRT-LAN-DB and it now includes
New: Active RS232 Cable provides an RS232 output to control A/V Devices with an RS232 input

Does that mean I can send ip packets to the ir transmitter or a new RS232 port to control my AV kit?

What is the Active RS232 Cable. If its just a cable why is it 40 Euro's

Many Thanks

Hi,
the active RS232 cable adds an RS232 output to the IR Transmitter.

The device then supports sending of IR Codes and RS232 sequences.
This allows to control devices having a RS232 port.

It is an active cable (the plug contains additional electronics) therefore it is a bit more expensive.

Thank You.

Just so that I am clear, what is an example of its use. What I am trying to do is:

Send IP packets to the Ethernet controller that go to the Active cable thats connected to my AV RS232 port - so controlling the AV Receiver
And/Or
Send IP packets to the Ethernet controller that go to the IR Transmitter (This is its basic function)

What is the Active cable connected to on the Ethernet Controller

I cannot see the new feature in any of the documentation hence the questions

Many Thanks

Hi,
that is correct. Depending on the structure of the command that is sent the device finds out if it is RS232 or IR Data.

The RS232 cable can be connected to the IR output or IR Input of the IRTrans Ethernet device.
The rest (Internal Transmitter / Internal Receiver) can still be used.

Hi,

if we need to use IR output (or 2xIR output) and IR Input for IR, so we can't used RS232 Active Cable ?
We have to do not use IR output or IR input ?
Or if we have 2xIR Output (with stereo jack), we can use one IR output for IR and the second IR output for RS232 ?

In other case, we need another IRTrans Ethernet, for example to use RS232 cable.

Thank you

Hi,
if you need the IR Output and the IR Input you cannot connect the RS232 cable.

The 2X option does not add a 2nd connector - both outputs are routed to a single socket.

If you neeed RS232 + IR In + IR Out you can use the IRTrans LAN IO.
