Can't get status. Firmware upgrade required?

Postby michal » Sat 10. Oct 2009, 04:19

Hi,

I have an IRTrans USB V3.3 and I'm using the current server/client available on your website. Below is what happens when I try to get the status from the device:
---
IRTrans ASCII Client Version 6.01.01

1 - Send
2 - Learn
3 - Status

99 - Exit

Select command 3

0 Device(s) Found:
---
]The irserver log shows the following:
---
IRTRANS TCP/IP Socket connection request
IRTRANS TCP/IP Client 0 accepted from 127.0.0.1
Netcommand: 69 [0]
Send Status 31764 - 31764 [24]
---

The client frequently segmentation faults but I can still learn codes and use the device, but I think the firmware is VERY out of date. I know I haven't updated it at least since I got the driver accepted into the Linux kernel years ago.

I also don't see an option to learn repeat codes in the Linux client. All I have is:
---
1 - Select remote
2 - Learn Timing
3 - Learn Command [Based on timing]
4 - Learn Command [Command with timing]
5 - Learn Command [RAW Data]

99 - Exit
---
I look forward to getting this working properly again. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Michal Dobrzynski

P.S. I am running this under Ubuntu 9.04 and the device ID for my IRTrans is as follows:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0403:fc60 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd

Hi,
this device is VERY old (more than 5 years). It might not be fully supported by the current SW versions.

A firmware update for that device is not possible because the current FW versions will not fit into that device.

Oh dear, why drop support for older hardware?
Surely there's nothing stopping it from being at least as functional now as it was back then.

Can you provide the last firmware that was available for this device? I'd hate to be left without a useful device.
I'd appreciate anything you can do.

Michal

Well, that is very simple: Our current devices have got 32K or 64K controllers. Your old one only has 8K. Therefore our current firmware developments simply do not fit into that device. That is the reason why we do not have any different firmwareversions for that device.

Furthermore these old devices do not have a bootloader - that means you cannot upgrade the firmware yourself.

We can offer you an upgrade to a current device at a special price. If you are interested please let us know.
