irserver, rem files and IR database

Postby nickel » Fri 4. Dec 2009, 23:11

Hello,

After reading documentation, I have several questions :
1) I don't understand how to create rem files with irserver/irclient ?
2) After creating rem files, where to store them in order to be used by irserver ?
3) What is the difference from rem file and IR database (integrated on hardware module) ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,
regarding your questions:

The complete management of the .rem files is done by the irserver. That means whenever an application learns a remote control the irserver will create the .rem file and fill it with the remote codes. That means you do not need to create these files manually. All you need to do is to start learning of an IR Code. That can be done with the ASCII irclient throught the menu. You can also use the Windows GUI together with the LINUX irserver to learn new IR Codes.
The .rem files are stored in the folder remotes that can usually found in the same directory as the irserver programm itself.

The IRDB in an IRTrans Ethernet device can store the same IR definitions. They are, however, to save space and speed things up binary compressed.
Upload of .rem files to the IRTrans devices is also done using the Windows GUI Client or the commandline client irclient.

Hello,

First of all, thank your for your answers.

I have one more question about your following explanation :
That can be done with the ASCII irclient throught the menu.

I don't have Windows license and I want to learn IR from my Linux station.
I downloaded irserver/irclient, but I don't find any ASCII irclient ? any menu ?

Could you help me to understand how to learn IR remote with only Linux ?

Thanks in advance,

The ASCII Client is the irclient programm available with LINUX.

Simply start it with "irclient localhost" and follow the menu.

Of course the irserver needs to be running.
