External IR Receiver

Postby Ben » Mon 19. Jan 2009, 19:11

Hi,

When I plug an external IR Receiver to my Ethernet IRTrans device, should it keep working as well ?
I presume the external receiver works correctly, but IR codes seem not te be relayed by the internal transmitter (nor the external two-ways one).
Is this normal ?
Should I remove the red jumper ?
So, how can I easily open the device without breaking it ?

Thanks !

Hi,
to use an external receiver the red jumper needs to be removed - otherwise both will be active and there will be problems.
To open the box simply remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the device.

When the device should relay the IR Codes the option "Self Repeat" in the device settings or HTML setup needs to be enabled.

Hi,

Ok, I've removed the jumper and plugged an external receiver.

This external receiver works fine, the IRTrans receives codes everytime.
But sometimes, the "self repeating" does not work correctly.
I don't have any problem without external receiver.

An idea ?

My IRDB contains a translation table, could it explain the problem ?

Thanks,
Ben

Hi,
internal and external receiver work exactly the same way, therefore there is no difference when using the internal or external receiver.

Some very old firmware images did not do a self repeat when a command was in the IRDB - however that would be the same regardless of the receiver you use.

Should I learn command with this external receiver (instead of the internal one, that's what I've done) ?

That will not make any difference at all - internal and external receivers do exactly the same.
