Sending to irserver on a linux comp..

soo, I have a question.

If I get an IRTrans Ethernet module, can that communicate with irsever the same way the usb devices due? I'm really interested in having IR codes shot at the module to be sent to the irserver. Then a plan to use an LIRC client to access the irserver and eventually do what I want. Is my thinking right? I can't seem to find a comprehensive manual on irserver, when I see it mentioned, it always talks about about it access the module through usb. This will be running on linux.

Also, I might use a mac, will that some thing work with but replace irserver with iRed? thanks!

Hi,
that is correct - the irserver works with an Ethernet (or RS232) device the same way it works with an USB module.

Of course the LIRC interface will also work with an Ethernet device. - However LIRC does not support multiple zones.

When used with a Mac iRed will replace the irserver.

yes that is correct.

However, that is no limitation of IRTrans - LIRC itself does not support using more than one Transmitter.
